UPDATE from her Dad:

You guys have no idea how awesome this lunch was! This was no quick meet and greet photo opp. We sat and talked to Taylor and her mom for two hours, had lunch and Kayla received a gift basket, then she signed pictures! She is the sweetest, most down to earth person I have ever met! This was more than we ever expected! I’m so thankful to team Kayla, news, and everyone who made her dream come true! This was the best day ever for her and all of us!

MAJOR UPDATE: Thanks to all of you, Kayla has informed us that she will be having lunch or dinner with Taylor Swift on Saturday. We are told this isn’t because of Make A Wish…This is because all of us joining together and campaigning and the local news making calls but MOST of all it’s because Kayla has touched our lives and was willing to share her inspirational story with us! We’ll post pictures as soon as we get them this weekend! THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU!

KAYLA UPDATE from her Dad

I know Naomi posted an update, but for those who may not be friends with her on Facebook or didn’t see it: On Dec.28 Kayla had a more advanced MRI with Perfusion, to see if this new area in her frontal right lobe is actually a tumor or necrosis/damage from the radiation she had back in Jan-Feb. When Kaylas neuro surgeon took a second look at the MRI she had on Dec.19 and compared it with her radiation field, he found that this new area was within that field. He told us that necrosis/damage from radiation can occur up to 12 months after radiation, and felt their was a small possibility this could be what we see on the MRI. The MRI with perfusion looks at blood flow in the brain, and because tumors have their own blood structure it should show an increase in blood flow to the area. The perfusion test did NOT show an increase of blood flow to the area, so we cant rule out the possibility of this being necrosis. The Avastin treatment could also be the reason why we don’t see an increase in blood flow to the area, because Avastin cuts off the blood flow to the tumor. The only true way to find out would be a biopsy, but she cant have one because of the Avastin treatment she has been doing. The Avastin causes bleeding and the blood vessels have a hard time repairing themselves, so she would need to be off the treatment for a min of 6-8 weeks before attempting this. We are in a holding pattern until we can find out if this is tumor or necrosis. She has been off all chemo treatment for 3 weeks now and the new area did NOT increase in size from the MRI on Dec.19 to this latest MRI w/perfusion on Dec.28, and the old area still remains stable. Her oncologist is consulting with doctors at Duke University and St. Jude Hospital, and I have contacted U of M, and John Hopkins University to have her records reviewed. We meet with her Oncologist again on Jan.9th, so I will provide another update after we get more info. I know some people don’t understand why we are not doing any treatment or have any answers, whether its tumor or necrosis, so I wanted to give details and help clear up the confusion. On another note, we got a call from make a wish and Kayla has been moved to top of the list! Thanks again for all the prayer and support!
